The things you find when you google… (NSFW)

June 23, 2008

So, being the pretentious fellow I am, I decided to google myself and see what came up.

My real name didn’t yield too many embarrassing pages (besides one where I got suckered in by a parody site and vented my spleen upon somebody pretending to be a preacher) but googling “Ruzkin” landed me in hot water.

I found this profile set up by a “Ruzkin” in Ontario, Canada. Now I have to hope and pray that, if I do ever make it big in any way, my “ruzkin” isn’t mistaken for this one.

Warned: Not Safe For Work in any way, shape or form. Cock awaits.

EDIT – JAN 09
Seems the offending page has been taken down. For anyone who was curious, the link connected to a gay personals page for a Ruzkin in Ontario. The featured pics included naked men in the living room, naked men in the bedroom, and a naked man doing a cartwheel on a beach. Cocks flying everywhere. Wikkid.

Semester is over!

June 11, 2008

The first semester of 2nd year is over, and about damn time. The complete lack of sleep was getting more than tiresome – today I felt ready to collapse on my face from 6am onwards, and getting home after the hand-ins for a nap was a beautiful feeling.

Now, with 5 weeks of holidays ahead, it’s time to plan my writing.

First, I want to bust out the 1st draft of a new novella that I’ve been working on for the past few weeks. It’s a YA sci-fi horror mashup that sounds pretty silly even to me, but it could turn out decent with the right attention to detail.

Second, I have to rewrite What You Bring Back. A good friend of mine in Tasmania has given me some really good crits on how to redo it from scratch, so I’m going to put that into effect next week. Hopefully I’ll have it done in time to beat the latest Voiceworks deadline.

That being said, I’m off to have a bath.

Planetfall – A Sci-Fi Told Through Messages

June 6, 2008

Planetfall

Was linked up to this through The Writers Block today, and loved it all the way through.

Planetfall is the story of a space cruiser en-route to a distant planet that suffers a critical equipment failure, and the choices that must be made to ensure that at least some of the crew survive the trip. It’s told through back-and-forth emails between various crew members, including the Commander, the pilots, the security officers and the ship’s doctor, and peering into the private correspondence of so many characters in a time of extreme crisis is pretty intense.

Kudos for not only writing a great story and presenting it in an interesting way, but also kudos for the excellent Flash interface. So much of this story relies on the interface, and the little portraits are perfect, as is the relative scroll bar. It’s a brilliant marriage of storytelling and tech.

So, click and enjoy.
